How Civil Rights Violations Impact Police Data, Predictive Policing Systems and Society
This talk will explore Rashida Richardson's recent research on the data provenance of police data commonly used in predictive policing system. The research reviews Department of Justice consent decrees and other federal court monitored settlements related to police practices to examine the link between unlawful and biased police practices and the data used to train and/or implement these systems. Rashida will discuss the findings of this research as well as the ways this "dirty data" perpetuates discriminatory police practices and creates self-reinforcing feedback loops throughout the criminal justice system and society writ large.
